Hudson Bay

Hudson Bay Blankets are iconic. I remember that my family had this blanket forever. However, we move so much that it got lost in the shuffle. Which is ok because it was quite beat up from rough daily use.

I love the picture. It makes me want to curl up under the blanket with a book and a mug of hot chocolate. Or cuddle up with someone special and spend a nice romantic winter night perhaps by candlight and in a perfect setting a crackling fire. Nice set up huh? I think once I get around to buying a house I may recreate this look. Even the wood paneling.

The blankets vary in price depending on the website you go to but from what I have seen it ranges from $250 - 500. This also depends on the size of the blanket. The throws and shams range between $99 -150.

In the corner picture the blanket shown has a pink stripe. It is a lighter and more feminie look. It would still work in the winter but obviously lends it self to spring.

This picture is definitely decorating inspiration for me. I think the bones of the room would lend itself to many different designs. I love decorating by mood so it is important to me be able to switch out bedding and some accessories to acheive a different look. So does this picture make you want to revamp your room?

Styling Sunday #1

It took awhile to think of a post that I could do every Sunday then it hit me. It's so simple it deserves a mental head slap. Styling Sunday where we will style either people or interiors. Today is an interior. All the pictures are clickable. So let's get to it.

Inspiration. Every room should start with an inspiration. Today it was a picture of fabric. This fabric was madee into a bedspread and that is how we are going to use it as well.

First the furniture:
The headboard would be simple and white.

I don't match furniture much so the nightstands would be different in color and style but must be similar in height. *note the round coffee table is brown I would paint it either white or one of the colors from the bedspread. (In my actual bedroom I have a similar setup including a coffee table as a nightstand)

In the corner I would place a circle chair. It adds a modern touch to this cottage look.

On the nightstands I would add two cyrstal/glass silver lamps for balance.

On the bed I would use lace linens. Two stripe pillows and one solid color pillow all three the same size.

Lace curtains would finish the design. Add a blackout shade for privacy and the morning sun.

A very pretty room indeed.

Crochet Bedspread

Vintage Bedspread

I am from the south. I have lived in the north most of my life but I am a Southerner. There's no getting around it. I still have the accent, the habits, the culture, and just the plain ole fabulousness of being from the south. One of the things that remind me of home are crochet bedspreads.

The obvious room to use a crochet bedspread is in the following types of rooms: Romantic, Bohemian, Vintage, and Cottage. I have a very eclectic decor...matches my personality for sure. What is great about an eclectic decor is that you can have pieces from everywhere and somehow it just works.

With that said I would use the bedspread in any room including a very masculine one. Obviously in a masculine room you would not cover the entire bed. Instead fold it and place it at the bottom of the bed. Or perhaps drape over the arm of a chair. Fellas, I don't encourage laying but tell your honey (if she asks why do you have such a feminie piece) that it reminds you of you mother or grandmother. Instant awe he's so sweet factor.

Are you ready to add a crochet bedspread to your linen wishlist? I know I am.

Mini Haul #1

Mini Haul #1
07/24-07/25/2011

The last few days have been pretty darn hot here in Boston. I was suppose to clean my apartment but who wants to do all that in the heat so I did a bit of shopping.

First up are the Olive Ruffle Peep-Toe Booties. This decision was hard as I loved the colors but I finally got the olive color because if I were to want to wear them in the fall or winter I could. There are some color that just scream summer and as it is already the end of July I thought it best to buy something that I can keep wearing. Any New Englander knows September can be warm or it can kick off an early winter. I wearing them now and have gotten a ton of compliments.

The Specs:zipper back, keyhole ruffle
1.25"wrapped platform 4.75"cone heel
sale $25online, sale $30instore, reg $40

Then I went to Old Navy and got two v-neck tees. One in gray and one in white. I love these tees for two reasons. First, they come down to my hips so they hide my huge tummy. Second, I have a large chest and love showing "the girls" v-necks are great for that.

Then I got two headphone pendants for forever21. Talk about cute. Again, I am wearing the goldtone one and people are loving it.

A pretty good haul don't you think? That's it for now. Keep it Fierce!

Decorating Inspiration: Tufted Furniture

Decorating Inspiration: Tufted Furniture

I love the look of tufted furniture. I think that it can be used in any type of design. My favorite is the traditional diamond tufting. There are two pieces where I will try my hand at diamond tufting. One is a headboard. Right now I do not have a headboard. Sad I know. Especially since I have been living in my apartment for the last 5 years. I am not sure if I am staying for another year (lease is up in September) but if I do then I will proceed with an headboard.

Second project will be my couch. It is run down and need to be thrown away. However, it is functional and until I decide where I am moving next I might as well keep using it right? After all, I won't bring it when I move so it one less thing that needs to be packed up before I go. Those are the two projects I am looking for to.

I will soon do a room by room makeover series. Loads of things will be discarded and what is left will be super organized (ambitious huh...lol). I am working up a plan right now. The first series will be all about getting things organized. The end results should be beautiful.

Glossy Leopard Print Stilettoes from Forever 21

Glossy Leopard Print Stilettoes
Forever 21 $27.80
The Specs: 6" heels 1.5 "platform Color: brown and black

My 2cents:
These are too cute. I am not sure it I would wear these because of the 6" heels usually I don't wear more that 5". I like these because you just cant help but to look sexy with whatever else you have own.

A quick couple of ways I would wear these. First my go to...plain white tee and skinny jeans (or leggings). Second a white or black dresswith a leopard belt (red or brown would work as well).

I'm No Slouch Bag by mark

I'm No Slouch Bag by mark

From the Avon/mark catalog:

Don’t let this bag’s über-relaxed shape fool you. In tones of black and bronze, it looks just as amazing when you’re dressed up as when you’re wearing jeans and a tee.

The specs: Faux leather. 30" L x 8 3/4" W x 15 3/8" H (10" handle drop).

My 2cents:
I wanted this bag when I first saw it but was not willing to pay the $30 (not sure if it was $30 or $35). Then I saw it in the Avon Outlet catalog and wouldn't you know it was an old catalog so I thought for sure it would be sold out. I order anyway and to my surprise it was still in stock.

When I first got it I loved it. The size is huge and I love a huge bag. The color is pretty. The shape is weird...loved that. I have been using this bag for weeks at a time.

Guess what I found out? The black is just plain old paint. And not even paint that has been sealed. How did I find this out? My hands sweat in the summer so I look down and my black have all these black specks on it. Not sure what it is so I ignore it. The next day same thing and I realized it was the black.

Shame Shame Shame on you mark/Avon. I am very disappointed with that aspect of the bag. I am a strong believer that just because something is inexpensive doesn't mean it shouldn't be quality made. There was another bag by mark that I wanted but because of the problems I had with the Gather Around Bag and now with this I'm No Slouch Bag I just don't want to waste my money. So if the bag goes down in price then I may purchase them but only for $10 or less (maybe $15). My 2 cents is save yours...spend the money elsewhere.

Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

Revlon PhotoReady Foundation

I wish I could be one of those women who doesn't need any foundation but I am not. I am working on evening out my skin tone and blemishes in the meantime, I wear foundation. I use to wear Lancome but they discontinued my shade.

I was thinking to of getting a foundation from Bobbi Brown. Then I thought about the line colors Avon has added to their foundations but I don't know anyone who sells it as I don't sell it anymore. I decided to try Revlon PhotoReady Foundation in Mocha. I didn't think it would work for my skin but it matches. So I just scored. $14 is a great priced compared to $40.

Update: I have been using this foundation for awhile now and it is very red. It's not so much of a big deal for me since I like red base foundations but if you have golden tones to your skin this is not for you. I do use a powder on top and that does balance out some of the red.
